Imphal, June 26 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh pn Monday said there is a need to involve all the civil societies and women organistions to restore peace in Manipur.

The state has been facing unrest since May 3 when a crisis started at Churachandpur leaving over 115 dead and displacing over 60000 people. The main national highway , Imphal to Mao remains blocked at Kangpokpi and the internet has been suspended since the violence erupted.

Biren rushed to New Delhi on Sunday and discussed the situation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

After arriving here from New Delhi, Biren said people should learn to forget the past and start a new life so that peace can be restored. Biren said during the meeting with the Home Minister it was decided to involve all the Civil society organisations and women bodies.

Biren said the Union Minister assured all steps would be taken to control the situation in the hill areas. Shah asked the CM to seek help from the civil societies to understand the problems and demands of the people living in the valley areas.

The centre is minutely monitoring the situation and the CM said after June 13 there has been no report of any major incident. Biren said he informed the Home Minister about the steps taken by the government to restore peace in the state. Biren said there are reports of mass uprisings with large numbers of people burning houses, attacking people . There is a semblance of lawlessness in many parts of the state, he said.

Biren was accompanied by Manipur Speaker Th Satyabrata and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba during the meeting with the Home Minister.

Meanwhile state Police and Central forces conducted search operations in Tamenglong, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Kakching districts and destroyed bunkers during the last 24 hours.

Manipur Police have arrested 135 persons in connection with curfew violations, theft in abandoned houses, arson cases. etc. Flag marches, area domination and cordon and search operations are continuing in various parts of the State. A total of 1100 arms, 13,702 ammunition and 250 bombs of different kinds have been recovered till date.
